when the Immigrant Justice Initiative was established in 2014, it was a nonprofit law firm based in Las Vegas, Nevada and it mostly represented asylum seekers in their bond and deportation cases. at the time, we were a group of enthusiastic immigration attorneys and activists, committed to representing as many asylum-seekers as possible, hopeful that our emergency legal assistance would be temporary.
five years later, the need for our services has only grown, and many of us are burnt out - and yet, we cannot look away.
adelante represents the organization's shift from direct representation to community education.
through direct legal representation, we were able to help dozens of families. under the self-help model, our hope is to help thousands.
